Discovering Talents, Friendships, and Faith: Camille’s Experience at Able to Serve

Camille — Finding Her Voice, Her Confidence, and Her Community at Able to Serve

If you’ve spent any time at Able to Serve in Garner, NC, chances are you’ve heard a joyful laugh or a perfectly delivered joke drifting through the room—chances are, that’s Camille. A bright, social, and warm-hearted participant, Camille brings life to our community each day. But what’s even more beautiful is how Able to Serve has helped her shine in ways she—and her family—never imagined.

A Place Where Camille Belongs

Camille is someone who thrives when she’s surrounded by people, and Able to Serve has become a second family to her. She comes alive during our daily activities, fellowship events, and special gatherings. Whether she’s showing off her singing talent or cracking jokes that have everyone smiling, Camille loves being included and having opportunities to share who she is.  “ATS is like a second family to me,” Camille shared. “I love being here.”

Growing in Confidence, Communication, and Community

Since joining Able to Serve, Camille’s growth has been remarkable. She’s learning how to express her thoughts and feelings clearly, navigate everyday conflicts, and build meaningful relationships with participants, staff, and volunteers. These skills have helped her connect more deeply with others—and helped her discover how capable she truly is.

At ATS, Camille feels valued. She knows her voice matters. “ATS has given Camille her voice,” her family says. “She sees that her thoughts, feelings, and opinions are important.”

This sense of belonging has boosted her confidence in powerful ways. Camille is more accepting of herself, more at peace, and more secure—because she knows she is loved, appreciated, and safe.

Discovering New Interests (Including Sloths & Firefighters!)

One of the sweetest surprises has been watching Camille discover new passions. Through a project at ATS, Camille learned she absolutely adores sloths—so much so that her mom now sports a giant sloth image on her van! And thanks to some of our service projects and community interactions, Camille has also developed a fond admiration for firemen and others in uniform. Those who know her know these interests are just part of her charm.

A Blessing for the Whole Family

For Camille’s family, Able to Serve has made a life-changing difference. They now have peace knowing she spends her days in a place that is healthy, safe, nurturing, and grounded in Christian principles. It’s a place where Camille can be independent, deeply cared for, and surrounded by people who see her as the precious individual she is.

“It is an enormous relief and blessing,” her family shared. “ATS is such a huge part of her life.”

Why Able to Serve Matters

Camille’s story is just one example of how Able to Serve empowers adults with disabilities to grow, serve, learn, and thrive. Here, participants aren’t just part of a program—they are part of a purpose. Through devotions, Scripture, meaningful activities, community service, and individualized support, participants experience spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional growth.

And most importantly, they experience love—genuine, individual, and life-changing love.

As Camille’s family expressed:   “ATS invests in the life, growth, and success of each individual who attends.”

Camille is shining—and we are so honored to be part of her journey.
