Paying It Forward: Our Days at Rise Against Hunger

At Able to Serve, we understand how critical volunteers are to everything we do. In fact, our program runs entirely on the generous spirit of volunteers. They help us accomplish the many amazing things our participants do each day.  So when the opportunity to pay it forward came our way, we were enthusiastic. We were ready to serve as volunteers ourselves!

A Mission That Inspires

Rise Against Hunger in Raleigh, NC, serves as headquarters for an international organization. Their mission? To end global hunger.  They do this by distributing nutritious, volunteer-packed meals. Additionally, they implement sustainable, long-term solutions.

Their local presence supports this vital mission in several ways. First, they host community meal packaging events. Second, they organize fundraising efforts. Finally, they implement programs that include skills training, agricultural assistance, and crisis response—both locally and globally.

Two Days of Volunteer Service for World Hunger Day

Rise Against Hunger welcomed us with open arms. As a result, we received an incredible opportunity to participate in their World Hunger Day event.  Over two amazing days, we worked alongside their dedicated team. Moreover, we joined hundreds of other passionate volunteers. Together, we united in the fight against global hunger.

Our ATS participants packed 1,300 meals. These meals are now headed to South Sudan in Africa. There, they will provide crucial nutrition to those facing hunger.  As we assembled and packaged each meal, our hearts filled with gratitude. We knew each one would nourish someone thousands of miles away. That knowledge gave us purpose.

Impact Through Action

This volunteer experience tapped directly into our Christ-centered focus. Therefore, it allowed us to put our leadership and service abilities into practice.

Seeing our participants work together was truly powerful. They showed such dedication and joy. Furthermore, they knew their efforts would directly impact lives in South Sudan.

We left Rise feeling inspired, grateful, and blessed. In addition, we were reminded of the transformative power of service. Most importantly, we saw the incredible difference we can make when we come together as a community of volunteers.
